Social media shucks!
Social media shucks!
Pretty much everyone knows that. I mean, the whole point of "social media" is to catch up with your friends, to be connected even when you're afar. And sure, it does that, sometimes.
But like, why does Instagram give me stuff unrelated to my friends? And like, a whole tab with short form content. Isn't this app supposed to be about seeing your friend's photos? Oh and there is a setting to "snooze" (NOT disable) recommended posts for 30 days. Yep, you have to do it every 30 days, or the algorithm will come back at ya. OH did I mention that Instagram sometimes just... doesn't care. Like, it'll still show you algorithm-recommended stuff. Ugh. If you want to escape these for sure, you have to use a modification of the app. And I can't simply not use Instagram, because for some reason people decided it's a good app to send messages from.
I don't even want to begin talking about twitter, or how some people call it now for some reason, "X". The whole place is filled to the brim with spam, hate & more! You need a browser extension to make it usable (aka removing the discover feed). At that point you might as well not use it, your mental health will be better off like that. Bluesky is "better", but the bar is set too low.
Should we even consider TikTok a social media site? Does anyone connect with other people there? IDK, cuz I ain't touching that place with a stick.
